Supervision Approach
I have supervised all levels of staff from Social Services to volunteer community
staff in a variety of settings for many years, I would expect the supervisory
relationship to bring and share the tasks and issues. Respect
sees supervision as a creative partnership of mutual learning and development
for all staff.
My responsibility as a supervisor is;
-
To ensure that work is undertaken within the Ethical Framework
of BACP or the supervisees chosen professional body, in order to protect
the client
-
To agree with the supervisee how material is brought to
supervision in a way that allows for an honest appraisal by both parties
and respects the confidentially of the client
-
To manage time and tasks according to the needs and priorities
of the supervisee
-
To ensure that boundaries are recognised and maintained
in the supervisory and counselling relationships
-
To ensure that supervision takes into account the supervisees
preferred style of learning
-
To recognise my own limits of competence and learning, and
to advise alternative supervision if necessary
-
To encourage a freedom to reflect upon the conscious and
unconscious processes in counselling and supervisory relationships
-
To support the supervisee through the exploration of issues
affecting the supervisees ability to work effectively with clients
-
To give and receive regular balanced feedback about the
supervisory relationship and process
-
To provide opportunities for regular review
Expectations of the Supervisee
-
To prepare for supervision sessions, and propose objectives
for the session
-
To be open to feedback, and ready to look at personal process
-
To be honest about concerns in client work or the supervisory
relationship
-
To keep to any requirements identified by their training
establishment (if any)
Standards and Complaints
- I am a member of BACP and UKCP, and work to the BACPs Ethical Framework
for Good Practice
- I am currently supervise and trained staff in Dip Counselling, Dip Supervision,
Dip Hypnotherapy and trainee social workers.
- I have Professional Indemnity Insurance with AXA Insurance, via the UKCP.
- Complaints should be addressed to respect counselling directly in the first
instance, and if not satisfactorily resolved, to BACP.
Thank you
